Welcome to Black Dragon Tattoo
I was pretty young when I started noticing tattoos. Maybe 6 or 7. I’m not really sure what caught my eye but I always had an interest in art. Later when I discovered skateboarding and punk I found my path. I was never a good skater but the aesthetic of the punk/skate world in the 80s was right up my alley. I believe this was the beginning of my path to tattooing.
I first met Tom Johnson in 92 or 93 and was immediately blown away by the quality of his work and his humble attitude. I got tattooed by him as often as possible until ultimately he asked me to apprentice under him! It was a great opportunity and Tom was a huge influence on my work ethic and personal aesthetic. Tom passed a few years ago and will be deeply missed. I worked in a few shops around Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania over the next few years, ultimately leaving the east coast for the Pacific Northwest. I worked for the next 13 years at Silver City Tattoo in Poulsbo Washington until May of 2013 when I opened my first studio, Black Dragon Tattoo.
My goal for opening Black Dragon was to create a space where I can continue to develop tattooing and my personal aesthetic. A place that will give the potential customer an idea of what to expect as soon as you walk through the door.
Although tattooing has gone through some major changes since the day I got my first tattoo 20 years ago, the things that I love about it haven’t changed at all. I still get excited when I learn some new piece of the puzzle or get a chance to get tattooed myself. I still enjoy making tattoos every bit as much today as I did in 1996 when I did my first one.
